Award Winners
The NZ Business Excellence Awards are open to all private, public and
non-profit organisations or sub-units of organisations that meet the eligibility
criteria outlined in the Award Application Information.
The Foundation acknowledges the role of the regional and sector specific
Business Excellence Awards as recognition of performance excellence throughout
New Zealand. Organisations that achieve superior results from the regional
and sector Business Excellence Awards are encouraged to submit an
application for a New Zealand Business Excellence Award.
An award is earned because an organisation has shown it has an outstanding system
for managing its products, services, human resources, and customer
relationships. As part of the evaluation, an organisation is asked to
describe its system for assuring the quality of its goods and services. It also
must supply information on quality improvement and customer satisfaction efforts
and results.
Applicants for the award are asked to supply facts and data to substantiate
their claims concerning their management practices. An organisation must
show through facts and data that it has a robust management system in place
and that it is continually looking for ways to improve.
How do we apply?
Applying to participate in the awards programme is a two step
process. The first step is the Expression of Interest form. This is
completed and submitted to the Foundation.
Once and Expression of Interest has been received, the Foundation will confirm
your eligibility and discuss how your organisation might best progress
through the Awards process. This may involve: (1) participating in an on-site assessment by National Evaluators with
your management team to compile an application or (2) preparing and completing an application form and a
written application. If submitting a written application, the application
must summarise in 50 pages the organisations practices and results of the
organisation in response
to the requirements outlined in the Criteria for Performance
Excellence.
Basis for Evaluation
By entering the awards your organisation will receive on average more than 400 hours of
review by a team of trained National Evaluators selected for their depth and
breadth of management knowledge. Subject to the Evaluators findings,
NZBEF, in consultation with the Applicant, will decide whether to proceed to
site visit. If confirmed, the team will then undertake site visits to
validate and clarify the content of the application and their findings.
The scoring of the application and the feedback report is then finalised and
presented to the judging panel who will determine if an applicant is to receive
an award and if so, what level of award.
The National Evaluators findings, both strengths and opportunities for
improvement, are captured in the feedback report your organisation receives.
The awards process will help you to prioritise improvement opportunities whilst identifying areas of strength to
celebrate. As a result, the rate at which your organisation improves will
accelerate.
Awards Programme Fee
The application fees are $7,500 + GST for Foundation members and
$10,000 + GST for non-members. This fee represents the cost involved in
training the National Evaluators, providing the assessment itself and the
preparation of a comprehensive feedback report.
The application fee does not cover the
cost of the Consensus Meeting or the Site Visit costs which are billed 'at cost'
to applicants. Consensus costs will be minimised by utilising local
evaluators wherever possible and with the applicant, where possible, providing a suitable venue
for the meeting.

Excellence Awards Guidebook for Applicants.
